Materials
There is HDPE («high density polyethylene») ou LDPE (« low density polyethylene »).Both types have specific properties and therefore specific applications. From the state of granules, they are then transformed into finished products thanks to various techniques: extrusion (followed or not by blowing), injection, roto-moulding, each of which makes it possible to produce a given type of product.
Transformation technology :
Extrusion blow-moulding, Injection blow-moulding, thermoforming.
Properties :
Each polymer has characteristic properties. Those of PE are various :
- Resistance to shocks, water, UV rays, etc.
- Thermal and mechanical resistance
- Fuel impermeability
- Gas tightness
- Ease of moulding
- Chemical inertia
Applications :
Three types of PE: HDPE, LDPE and medium density PE, which is a compromise of the first two and makes it possible to give flexibility to packaging while maintaining a certain resistance. PE are not gas-tight.
Recycling :
HDPE is 100% recyclable.
Alternatives :
RPE (Post Consumer Recycled PE) / Green PE
RPE (PE Recyclé Post consumer)
PE Végétal
PET (« Polyethylene terephthalate ») is converted from granulate to finished products by various methods.
Processing technologies :
Injection blow moulding, hot or cold cycle, extrusion, thermoforming. Each method makes it possible to manufacture a certain type of product.
Propriétés :
Thanks to this assembly of 2 different molecules, PET has specific characteristics :
- Transparency
- Shine
- Resistance
- Resistance to impact, pressure, gas and traction
- Lighter than glass (approx. 7 times)
Applications :
The intrinsic properties of PET make it an ideal material for the manufacture of bottles for carbonated drinks: resistance to gas, impact, pressure, etc...
Recycling :
PET is 100% recyclable.
Alternatives :
RPET (Recycled Post Consumer PET)
PP (« Polypropylene ») in granular form is moulded into finished products.
Processing technologies :
Injection and extrusion blowing
Properties :
Like each polymer, PP has specific properties :
- Ease of moulding
- Temperature, impact, scratch and bend resistance
- Chemical resistance
- Transparency
- Lightness
- Rigidity
Applications :
Mainly used in products for the food industry for its resistance to T°. Microwaveable material. Manufacture of buckets, pots, trays, etc.
Recycling :
PP is 100% recyclable
Alternatives :
RPP (PP Recycled Post consumer PP) / Green PP
